Adobe says Flash is often exploited by SEO scammers

Adobe, the software developer, is issuing a formal statement to the Federal Trade Communication (FTC) to support the proposed online privacy legislation. The company will be decrying its graphics framework to provide marketing data for search engine optimization (SEO) and other internet marketing approaches.

Standard HTML cookies can be erased by browsers periodically. On the other hand, Flash needs local storage to run its content and this is often taken advantage of by scammers who keep tracking cookies that are in place.

Adobe wants to put a stop to this type of online malpractice. “We encourage developers to use technology responsibly, and certainly not in ways that circumvents the user’s intentions or reasonable expectations,” the company said in a statement.

Recent studies suggested that privacy policies about locally shared content were unclear and that the Flash function is commonly misused.
