Black hat SEO campaign launched on “Justin Bieber”

Published on August 18, 2010 by Last Click News   ·   No Comments

A security research firm claims that a black hat search engine optimization (SEO) campaign has polluted the search results for the term “Justin Bieber.”

Unlike other black hat SEO operations, this one focuses on stories about the young pop star to lure in unsuspecting browsers.

Researchers from Panda say that most results start with the term “Hot Video” and are followed by several phrases that include estrogen pills, weed, gender change, etc.

These results redirect browsers to unsafe pages, where their computers are infected with malware. The browser is then urged to install scareware called My Security Engine.

Scareware is a term used to describe computer applications that pose as legit antivirus and security products.
