According to new research from Websense, search engine optimization (SEO) hackers are improving their tactics and relying on real-time search to strengthen the online presence of ther content.
Websense calls this problem “SEO Poisoning Attacks.” Basically, hackers exploit search engines to get their poisoned links higher search rankings. Hackers do this by using popular keywords.
According to the internet research company, popular search terms—when queried—often have poisoned links in the results page.
Real-time results have also been a breeding ground for poisoned links. Sites like Twitter and Facebook are easily hacked by spam and malware. And as the major search engines adopt real-time features, this will make the feature a bigger target for black hat SEO operations.
Malware poses a serious threat to reputable sites. SEO scammers have already devised ways to get this software inside you computer. Most of these scams display “Free PC scan” icons to corrupt computers. But, instead of getting the scan, the browser would be connected to irrelevant sites. To top it off, most users are conned into giving their account information.
