More and more businesses are using search engine optimization (SEO) to raise their exposure level on the Internet. But, private companies are not the only organization getting in on this act. It turns out governmental organizations are also using this tool to improve their search engine results page ranking.

Blue Water Media, a Washington D.C.-based web design company, has recently announced that it is working with the Department of the Interior Office of the Inspector General (OIG) to strengthen its presence online.

Blue Water Media also said that it will optimize the OIG site to make it compliant with Section 508, which requires all government agencies to eliminate barriers which may make technology inaccessible to the disabled.

Although SEO seems like it is designed for the businessman, it can also be used for public office. Important public services can perform better and serve more if they integrate SEO techniques in their home pages.
