Following speculation that Google will have its license revoked in China due to its redirection of Chinese users to its unfiltered site in Hong Kong, the Chinese government has decided to renew the search engine ICP license for the next 12 months.

This is the latest series of events that involve Google and the Chinese authorities, where both effused to compromise their operations. However, reconciliation has been achieved with adjustments for both sides to prolong Google’s presence in China.

The announcement was met by a 2.8 percent rise in Google shares during Friday trading. The renewal will be a significant factor in the search engine’s consistent growth, and will also have a positive impact in the Chinese internet industry.

The extension of Google’s presence in China represents future success for the top search engine, while it displays China’s new found openness.

The censorship of China will remain.
