European Commission investigates Google

Published on November 30, 2010 by David Castillo   ·   No Comments

Google will be investigated by the European Commission (EC) concerning allegations that the search engine abused its dominant market position by penalizing competitors.

In an official statement, the EC said that it will investigate the alleged lowering of unpaid search results of companies that compete with Google services.

In addition to that, the regulator will also investigate the accusations that Google lowered the quality score of pay per click (PPC) services that offered services that the search engine could provide, forcing marketers to pay a higher price to get their ads displayed.

The enquiry will also examine accusations that Google imposes exclusivity conditions on its advertising partners, preventing them from placing certain promotions on their sites that offer an alternative to Google.
