The global search market recorded extraordinary growth last year with a 46 percent growth rate from December 2008 to December 2009.
Statistics indicate that there were around 130 billion searches performed by people over the age of 15 from home and work last month.
The United States was the largest individual search market with more than 17 percent of all queries. China was second with 13.3 billion searches, closely followed by Japan and the UK.
Google held on to the majority of the market with over 87 billion searches in December, accounting for more than one-third of all search queries. This marked a 58 percent increase in the search volume for December 2008, according to ComScore statistics.
Yahoo! came in second placed with over 9 billion searches and Baidu, the Chinese search engine, came in third place. Bing, the Microsoft search engine, was in fourth place.
