Google accused of manipulating its search rankings

Published on July 9, 2010 by David Castillo   ·   4 Comments

The European Union (EU) is now investigating accusations that Google is unfairly demoting its European competitors in its search rankings.

Google’s domination in paid and organic search engine marketing has bred suspicion, specifically where its online services are involved. There are many accusations that the search engine manipulates its own SERPs to promote its own services at the expense of its competitors. However, there is no solid evidence.

Three companies are claiming that there poor rankings in Google are not the result of bad search engine optimization (SEO), but of direct interference by the search engine. These companies are: UK search site Foundem, French legal services site ejustice.fr, and Microsoft’s online shopping site Ciao.

Reports say that the EU has yet to launch an official investigation on the issue, but is now putting it into serious consideration.
