Google engineer says that 301 redirects can affect SEO

Published on March 17, 2010 by Last Click News   ·   3 Comments

Matt Cutts, Google’s software engineer, says that implementing 301 redirects can affect search engine optimization (SEO).

In a recent conversation with Eric Enge of Stone Temple Consulting, Cutts said that 301 redirects can result in loss of PageRank.

While this has been an observation of experts for a long time, this is only the first time that Google confirmed the effects of 301 links.

Cutts advised SEO executives not to indulge in PageRank sculpting. He said that the focus should be improving site architecture.

“If you can get site architecture straight first, then you’ll have less to do, or no need to even think about PageRank sculpting,” explained Cutts.

I like what the man told. Usually people are think if there are some tricks with keywords or layout then they can get their site rank high on the top. But Google has develop more at the same time to crawl the most suitable information to show on the top. So everyone just forget about how to optimize, join the social media and make friends with each other to share information. That’s the key.
