Google Reader goes for a social networking twist

It is not very often that Google installs new features to its Google Reader service, even though this is one of the most used aggregators in cyberspace. However, the search engine giant said that it will be adding more social networking features to Google Reader.

Users can now look for people who have public shared items, which can be subscribed to. The shared items will then google-reader_logoappear on your main Google Reader page whenever it is updated. Users can use Google Reader’s new people search feature or they can browse for users through name, location, and topic.

In addition to those new features, Google Reader will also allow sharing of public items to specific groups of people only. Users who maintain their Google profile can ad links from the Google reader page to Google profile.

Once the links are added, users can start following other users’ publicly shared items, getting updates that they get.
