Google upgraded location-based search queries

Published on July 10, 2009 by Last Click News   ·   No Comments

Google, the world’s top search engine, is putting a minor upgrade to its results page for geographic-based queries.

Whenever you search for a place, Google usually gives you a small map of where it is. Beside this map, Google will now post photos uploaded from its Panoramio photo-sharing site.

“Any traveler could tell you, knowing the geographical location of a place is only part of the story,” said Lingyun Liu, a software engineer from Google. “It’s often just as valuable to get a sense of what the place is like, and there’s no better way to do that than by looking at images of some of its most important sights.”

Take note, this is a new feature. So, it still is a bit unclear what kinds of searches will trigger the photos. If you search for renowned locations, like Grand Canyon and Yellowstone, you should get results.
