This holiday season, the world’s top search engines are competing for the best consumer promos and gifts.

Microsoft has partnered with JiWire, an airport and hotel mobile ad network, to offer free WiFi access in exchange for Bing search queries. On the other hand, Yahoo rolled out a free WiFi spot at Times Square, New York City. Not to be outshined, Google recently announced that it give free WiFi access at selected airports until January 15.

Google will also ask consumers to donate to some charities whenever they sign-up for free WiFi services. Google has tie-ups with several charities in this project, including Engineers Without Borders, the One Economy Corp. or the Climate Savers Computing Initiative.

What is the implication of these holiday promos to search engine optimization (SEO) campaigns? It will generate more traffic, which is good for every SEO campaign. This leads to more possible conversions for pay-per-click ads and display ads.
