Did you know that your real-time Twitter tweets can appear in Google’s search results?

With this new development, online businesses can now improve their search engine optimization (SEO) campaigns by maximizing their social presence.

Twitter is a proven social media marketing tool, and sites that know how to use it can greatly improve their SEO campaign.

Greg Scott from Drop Ship News posted 10 tips that can help improve SEO on Twitter:

1. Choose a great user name, one that is relevant to your ecommerce business. Remember, your user name becomes a part of your own unique Twitter URL. For instance, if your business name is Fun Furs, then you should make that your user name: twitter.com/funfurs. In this way, you create a static IP address that will help in search indexing as well as cross channel promotions.

2. Have a great bio. You will only get 160 characters for you bio, so make them count! Succinctly tell a bit about the key points of your business and brand. Bios are continually indexed, so what is in your bio will give your page on Twitter its basic relevance.

3. Choose a great Twitter account name. This is different than your user name and appears next to your profile. So, pick an account name that incorporates your prime keywords.

4. Use your URL in account settings to promote your business on a different social site. This is a good way to drive traffic to your website.

5. Help generate some buzz by adding a widget on your website that allows visitors to follow you on Twitter. You can also incorporate your Twitter URL into your website page footers.

6. Choose the first characters of your tweets wisely, as these are the ones that will show up in the title tag in a Google search result. So, the lead in of a tweet will be the most important, SEO-wise.

7. Bear in mind that Twitter messages are limited to 140 characters. So, when you tweet, keep it short enough that it has room to be easily retweeted.

8. Use back links to drive Twitter users back to your content. If you share links, be sure to use one of the URL shorteners such as tinyurl.com.

9. Try to write your Twitter tweets so that they are rich in your major keywords. Don’t overdo this, but be judicious and use some of your keywords whenever you can do so without compromising the quality of your message content.

10. When you do direct Twitter users to another page, be sure that it’s a good one containing relevant, useful and informative content.
