Should SEO experts focus on big search engines?

Published on October 21, 2009 by Last Click News   ·   No Comments

According to experts, around a third of the world’s search queries are performed on less-renowned search engines.

The world’s top five search engines are: Google, Yahoo, Bing, AOL, and Ask. But, SEO experts shouldn’t limit their campaigns to these five search engines.

Mediapost’s Rob Griffin says that the month of September saw over 21 billion internet searches, but only 14 million of those searches were performed with the top five search engines.

Griffin says that the implication of the statistic is, that the smaller search engines are growing (especially for map searches, video searches, and local searches). This makes these sites a good investment.

Statistics also indicate that YouTube is on the rise for the past years. In fact, Griffin suggests that the site’s SEO budget should be increased to further strengthen YouTube’s presence online.
