Tag and insert—the basics of SEO

Published on June 24, 2010 by David Castillo   ·   1 Comment

These days, corporate success is no longer a brick-and-mortar concept. An essential part of business formula is search engine optimization (SEO).

Whatever your business is, SEO campaigns are necessary.

SEO is an easy to concept to understand. Every business needs a website, and SEO involves making it easier for search engines (Google, Yahoo, and Bing) to find your website.

This is achieved by observing several SEO techniques—Meta tags and keyword placement.

If your company sells “mugs,” then this is also your main keyword. If a browser searches for “mugs” on Google, then proper SEO would ensure that your site is among the top search results. Conversely, if you sell mugs, and the term is nowhere to be found in your site content, you’ll be placing low in the search rankings.

To ensure that your site is optimized for the keyword, you should also use semantically-related keywords. For instance, while other browsers search for “mugs” some use “red mugs” or “green mugs”. The latter two terms can be classified as semantically-related keywords. Strategically placing the two terms in content will increase your chances of topping the search results.

Tagging a site also helps search engines find your website. When you tag, you simply give the search engine a short idea of what your site is about. If you’re selling mugs, then you should tag it that way in order for search engines to easily categorize your website.

Tagging sites and inserting keywords are only the basic parts of SEO. Running an SEO campaign entails tedious tasks that require a lot of patience. So, read up and get updated to learn the latest trends of internet marketing.
