Twitter’s nofollow tag could affect SEO

Published on August 27, 2009 by Last Click News   ·   No Comments

Aside from being a famous social networking site, Twitter also has marketing benefits. Marketers on Twitter will be dealt with a slight adjustment, because the site recently announced that it is shortchanging its search engine optimization (SEO).

AccuraCast says that Twitter is placing nofollow tags on all external links that users tweet. Many subscribers tweet links on their status messages. So, with the nofollow tags, this will have a significant effect on SEO.

According to reports, the site says that the reason behind the nofollow tag is to minimize spam. However, the site is already well-equipped to stop spammer accounts already. As of press time, the company has not disclosed other reasons behind the new tag.
