Yahoo revamps home page—will it revamp SEO strategies?   | read this item

With Bing on the rise and Google firmly staying on top, Yahoo has been left out of the discussions regarding search engines in the United States. However, the web portal is looking to make some noise with a revamped home page that is getting a lot of attention, which might cause the company to streamline its search engine optimization (SEO) strategy.

Yahoo is scheduled to launch its new homepage by the end of the day for US browsers. The new interface will be available in other parts of the world later this week. Yahoo is doing this to lure users who are looking for a search engine that can handle their Web 2.0 needs.

Building from the widely popular applications on the iPhone, the Yahoo homepage will also have a variety of applications that users can use, like Facebook, eBay, as well as other outside content.

yahoo-logo-normal“We’re pulling together everything about the user they care about, be it on Yahoo or off, to create a personally relevant experience,” said Tapan Bhat, senior VP for Yahoo consumer experience, in an interview with CNET. “In a world like this, Yahoo needs to make the user experience come first.”

Lately, there have been reports of a merger between Yahoo and Microsoft. According to recent figures from comScore, Yahoo is still number two in the search engine market with a 19.6 percent market share. A deal with Microsoft would align the number two and three search engines, but Google would still remain on top with a dominant 65 percent market share.
