Yahoo! to launch SEO-based news service

Published on July 6, 2010 by David Castillo   ·   4 Comments

Yahoo! will launch a news blog that will publish stories based on search-generated content.

Instead of the traditional system, where editors pick important stories of the day, Yahoo!’s Upshot will examine common phrases, words, and topics that are popular among users to determine writer’s topics.

The writers will create news content based on popular interests of browsers.

James Pitaro, vice-president of Yahoo! Media, says that search engine optimization will separate its product from its competitors.

“This idea of creating content in response to audience insight and audience needs is one component of the [company's] strategy, but it’s a big component,” explained Pitaro.
